बुज़ुर्ग माता-पिता को बुलाने की कतार सालों लंबी है। कलम इस कतार के भीतर से रिपोर्ट करता है: आवेदन का ख़र्च, बीमा की शर्तें, बार-बार आगे खिसकती तारीख़ें, और वह बोझ जो बेटे-बहू के कंधों पर चुपचाप आ बैठता है।

भारत और ऑस्ट्रेलिया आमने-सामने हों तो यहाँ बसा परिवार किस तरफ़ बैठे, यह सवाल हर पीढ़ी में नया हो जाता है। कलम क्लब क्रिकेट से लेकर पड़ोस के मैदानों तक जाता है, जहाँ बच्चे दोनों देशों की भाषा में खेलना सीख रहे हैं।

Kalam is a Hindi language daily for readers in Australia. We carry India and Australia in one masthead: politics and policy in Delhi and the states, the Indian economy as it lands in households here, and Australian news that changes a migrant family's week, including visas, tenancy, schooling, work rights, aged care, tax and consumer protection. Business, cricket, film and culture sit alongside the news, because those are how the language stays alive at home. Kalam has not started publishing; the sections described here are the ones we are building, and the band at the top of every page says so.
We report in Hindi first. Stories are commissioned, reported and edited in Hindi rather than translated from English copy, and our subeditors are native Hindi speakers who set headlines in the rhythm of the language. Every factual claim is tied to a named document, a public record or a person we have spoken with, and we say when a source has declined to comment. Reporting and opinion are separated on the page and in the web address. We do not sell coverage, sponsored material is labelled where it appears, and any commercial relationship is disclosed inside the story it touches. Material circulating on community messaging groups is treated as a tip, never as a source, and machine translation is not published unless a Hindi editor has rewritten it.
We correct in Hindi and in English. An error of fact is fixed at the top of the affected story with a dated note saying what was wrong and what changed, and that note stays for the life of the page. Significant corrections are also gathered on a single corrections page so the record can be read in one place. Readers can ask for a correction through the contact page; we aim to reply within two working days and we publish the outcome even where we conclude that no correction was warranted. Not yet. The masthead is in preparation and every page carries a visible band saying so. The sections, formats and standards set out here describe what we are building, and nothing on the site should be read as a published news report until launch day.
Editorial content is Hindi only, written for a Hindi reader rather than translated from an English site written for someone else. Our legal, advertising and reader service pages are in English because that is what advertisers, regulators and search engines read. This split is normal practice for Indian language mastheads in Australia.

No political party, government or foreign state body holds an interest in the masthead, and any change to that position will be published on this page.
